You see, when we inhale essential oils aromatically, they interact with our olfactory bulbs, which send a message to the limbic system. The limbic system is the part of the brain that controls our moods, emotions, memory and behaviour (ever wondered why smells can take you so vividly back to old memories?). Every single essential oil is made up of different constituents that send different messages to our brain. For example, Linalyl acetate is an ester found in floral oils like Lavender, Clary Sage & Bergamot. Inhaling these oils will send a message to our brain to help our body to feel calm and relaxed, which is why they are so great for supporting sleep, or reducing feelings of stress and anxiousness.
